Jelly Adhesives - E2
Technical data
Specially formulated adhesive which is well
established and used by many tube winders, who have
found this adhesive has the following advantages over
all other tube winding adhesives:
- Better bonding to heavy calandered or high
moisture recycled board The adhesive has the
capacity to reach fibre tear by loss of temperature
alone, giving it advantages over other adhesives
that only rely on loss of moisture to reach a bond.
- Better Wet Tack - The 10% special tackifiers and
wetting agents added to this formulation provide
exceedingly good wet tack at its operating
concentration and thus give good economy in use.
- More rigid tubes - savings on board costs. The
adhesives long molecular structure gives more rigid
tubes, thus allowing the use of lower board weight
without overlapping. Up to 15% savings in board
costs are achievable.
- Higher Productivity - The adhesives better bonding
technique enables machines to operate at
consistently higher speeds on a wide range of boards
with accompanying quicker start up times, shorter
reel changing times and less waste. Top speeds in
excess of 110 metres per minute are achievable on
modern high speed Tube Winders.
N.B. Recent improvements to the formulation
using Tackifiers and Wetting Agents have improved the
above-mentioned virtues very considerably, which are
noticeable to our customers.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
- The 12.5 kilo slab should be cut into 1-2 kilo
slabs and placed into the adhesive trough.
- The adhesive should be heated to a temperature of
50°- 60°C (120°- 140°F) when it will liquify and
be ready for use. In no circumstances must the heat
of the adhesive exceed 60° C (140°F). Continuous
running above 60°C will cause the adhesive to
deteriorate.
- The adhesive may be used as supplied. However, it
is important to remember evaporation does occur in
the glue bath quite quickly and dilution of the glue
with warm water is required to maintain the
adhesive's wet tack and penetration, particularly of
the dry ply.
- For your guidance our adhesive is formulated to
achieve maximum speeds and bond strength when the
concentration is between 52 to 55% solids using a
sugar refractometer. Used in this way considerable
economy is achievable. It is our experience that
poor bonding and low speeds occur when solids in the
glue bath are above 60%.

F.D.A. STANDARDS: The materials used in this
formulation conform to the requirements of the Code of
Federal Regulations 21 CFR175, 105.
Effect on the Environment
Being a natural colloid, this adhesive is water
soluble and any paper/board bonded with it is completely
recyclable. It is also biodegradable in normal effluent
processing plants and will break down in the soil to
become an organic plant nutrient.
